This 860m² two-storey Art Deco building on Wellington’s reclaimed foreshore is the new home of The Rutherford Clinic’s endoscopy facility, serving the Wellington region.
To prepare the building for patients, this project involved two phases; seismic strengthening to Importance Level 3 (100% NBS) and a specialist clinic fit-out.
During the strengthening phase our team stripped the building to its shell, before introducing new shear walls, ground beams, micro-piles, and structural steel, along with upgraded infrastructure, windows, and services.
The fit-out phase included three glass-walled modular procedure rooms by Cubro – manufactured in Italy and the only of its kind in New Zealand. Due to tight programme constraints and a six-month procurement period, this phase required concurrent design and fabrication with the base-build strengthening.
By precisely coordinating this fit-out, FPL overcame spatial and access constraints to deliver a robust, technically advanced, and architecturally refined facility.
