The first stage of the project focused on the structural upgrade of the 860m², two-storey Art Deco building on Wellington’s reclaimed foreshore. This prepared the existing structure for its transformation into a specialist endoscopy clinic.

The works involved stripping the building back to its shell and undertaking extensive seismic strengthening to achieve Importance Level 3 and 100% New Building Standard (NBS). We added new shear walls, ground beams, micropiles and structural steel, alongside upgrades to windows, building services and essential infrastructure.

Working within the constraints of an existing building that occupies most of the site required careful planning and coordination to establish a sound structural foundation for the specialist clinical fitout that followed.
